A Trip Between Italy & Spain
Fundació Enric Miralles in collaboration with The General Consulate of Italy in Barcelona presents “El Diseño. Un viaje entre Italia y España” in partnership with Barcelona Design Week 2019. The exhibition collects the works of eleven young and upcoming artists and students from Italy and Spain, in attempt to consolidate and cross pollinate artistic dialogues and partnerships from across the Mediterranean.
A trip between Italy and Spain is the result of a competition convened by the Italian Embassy in Madrid as part of the project ITmakES. Originally established a part of INTERNI’s event “Human Spaces” at the Università Degli Studi di Milano during the Fuorisalone 2019, and recently reimagined for the Festa Della Repubblica Italiana in Madrid. Competition winners were Buffet Capa, Manuel García Fraile, Loop Kitchen, Jesús López de los Mozos, Ness and Cristina Castillo y Patricia Lallana, with the winning entry awarded to Davide Valoppi from Noarc Studio.
The installation, designed by Valoppi takes inspiration from a journey between Spain and Italy and the affinity between the two countries. The white structures support huge red globes, that intend to recall the romantic balloon trips; with the color palette and use of a red a reference to the common color shared by both the Italian and Spanish flags. Valoppi installation also includes smaller wooden platforms on which are displayed sketches and images of the eight projects to have received special mentions.
