Debate and reflection
Ildefonso Cerdá intended the Plaza des Glories to be the central point of the city of Barcelona, in his plans for the Eixample. This project was conceived and studied in the 19th century, and the original vision of Cerda was modified by the municipal administration of the era. The space remains idiosyncratic, and discordant with its surroundings to this date; the topic regarding its revitalization and reintegration into the greater urban context of Barcelona requires further dialogue and discussion.
Taking advantage of the current importance of the topic, the Fundació Enric Miralles held a meeting held in the space of the Fundació, with the intention of having open discussion, debate, and discourse regarding the restructuring of the Plaza of the Glories. The meeting assembled a diverse array of perspectives in such disciplines as Geography, Urbanism, Landscape Planning, along with representatives of the municipality of Barcelona.
