The exhibition was inspired by the studies realized by the architect Josep Quetglas, and it deals with Enric Miralles’ and Elías Torres’ sketches drew during a trip to India in 1992. The aim of the journey was to visit Le Corbusier’s architecture in the two cities of Chandigarh and Ahmedabad.
The two architects were joined by Städelschule, directed by Enric in those years, Benedetta Tagliabue, Valerio Ferrari, Mogens Krustrup, Jesús Menéndez, Thomas y Helke Bayrle, Götze Stockmann y Klaus Bollinger. The “Porte Email” of the Chandigarth’s Parliament was very significant for the group of travellers.
In the exhibition are displayed unpublished pictures, drawings and travel notebooks, to give the visitor the opportunity of living the journey experience through the architects’ eyes.
Among the travel mates, many of them had pens and paper to portrait everithing that was attracting their sights. Many times Enric and Elías were sketching the same subject, one close to each other.
Enric used to sketch on hard cover sketchbooks of 10,5x15cm with a blu ink pen, and also he took pictures with the purpose to create panoramic assembly. On the contrary Elías drew with a black ink pen on a 14x21cm hartbound sketchbook.
The architects’ look interprets landscape and objects: both of them had the capacity of taking new architectural inspirations from every object.
The group of travellers could feel the author, while walking on the wasteland of Chandigarh Capitolio, as he had left some pieces of his own soul to be studied by next generations. It is possible that this was the aim – or the destiny– of Le Corbusier’s architecture: be a catalyst to the work of other architects.
Since his first studies, Enric Miralles got interested in Le Corbusier’s Works: he was fascinated by the “rounded” style of Le Corbusier sketches and his ability of taking notes with an extreme technical definition. Surely for Enric, Le Corbusier has been the mentor to always refer to during his whole professional carreer.
The exhibition, that will be open untill the 30th of September, is sponsored by Gigacer Spa that has created 5 ceramic collections whose colors reproduce the “Polychromie Architecturale” of Le Corbusier, in collaboration with Les Couleurs ® Le Corbusier fundacion. Two of those collections are present in the exposition so that the visitor can be exposed to the famous color palette of the Chandigarh “Porte Email”.
The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday, 10am-2pm and 4pm-7pm.
