Taking the exhibition MIRALLES. Perpetuum Mobile as a starting point, which can be visited at the Disseny Hub Barcelona until August 29th, this special and monographic edition of the «ADI Making Of…» conferences wants to delve into one of the lesser-known facets of the famous architect Enric Miralles, that of designer product and, specifically, furniture.
Miralles in his projects took care of every last detail of the interior design, but he never designed the furniture thinking of being commercially reproduced, now for the first time and in an unpublished way a selection of his creations are exhibited in the Disseny Hub Barcelona.
The speakers in this session will explain the “making of” of these pieces, the reproduction, manufacture, and the facet of Enric Miralles as a designer:
- Benedetta Tagliabue: architect and co-founder of the Miralles Tagliabue EMBT studio.
- Carlos Kasner: representative in Spain of the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC).
- Felix Larragueta: director of La Navarra.
- Juli Capella: architect, journalist and expert in the history of industrial design.
Introduction by Miriam Giordano, member of the board of ADI-FAD and founder of Labóh.
Before the debate, all the people registered in the activity have free access, with prior reservation of entry, to MIRALLES. Perpetuum Mobile, an exhibition made up of 18 prototypes and more than 30 pieces such as tables, chairs, and new lights, which were developed mainly for your domestic environment, imagined and created by experimenting with artisans and cabinetmakers for your own home, always on the move, where the furniture did not have an established place or shape, but could be moved or modified according to the needs of each moment. Originally made in “exotic” woods, some pieces needed to be updated in terms of materials and small fittings. Four sustainable American hardwoods, cherry, maple, tulipwood and red oak were chosen to reproduce the pieces, and the careful cabinetmaking work was carried out in Madrid, by the La Navarra workshop, with wood donated by AE Maderas, and in collaboration with the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC).
